Single entry granted but I have a trip to London planned in the middle

Hi everyone. I applied for a Schengen visa through the French consulate. I provided my full itinerary which includes entering Paris, taking the Eurostar to London for a weekend, and returning to Paris to fly home. I just got my passport and the visa clearly says “Number of Entries: 1”.

Is this a mistake? If I go to London, can I get back into France? My flight home is from CDG. Panicking a bit as I leave next week and the math doesn’t add up for my return leg.

Take a breath — unfortunately this one is pretty clear, and it’s not a typo.

Here’s the reality:

  • A single-entry Schengen visa means you can enter the Schengen area once only.

  • When you go to London (UK), you exit Schengen.

  • With “Number of Entries: 1”, you cannot re-enter France afterward.

So yes:
:backhand_index_pointing_right: You will not be allowed back into France from the UK with that visa, even if your return flight is from CDG.

Why this happened:

  • The French consulate likely assessed your application as a single-entry trip despite the itinerary, or

  • They issued the most restrictive entry by default (this happens fairly often)

What you should do now:

  • Do not assume airline or border officers will “let it slide” — they won’t.

  • Your realistic options are:

    1. Change your itinerary so you do not leave Schengen (cancel the UK weekend), or

    2. Urgently contact the French consulate/VFS to request a correction (low success rate, but worth trying), or

    3. Rebook your return flight from within Schengen only (no UK exit)

Hard truth (but important):
Trying to re-enter France on a single-entry visa would almost certainly result in denied boarding or refused entry, which is far worse than changing plans.
