Sharing Stories of Short-Stay Schengen Visa Applications from the Last Five Years

Hi everyone! I am currently compiling a blog post titled “Real Stories from Schengen Visa Applicants” and I want to highlight the human side of this bureaucratic process. I am collecting insights to help future travelers avoid common pitfalls.

What are your honest experiences with short-stay Schengen visa applications over the last five years? I am looking for details on rejection reasons, unexpected processing delays, or even surprisingly smooth outcomes. Whether you applied for tourism, business, or family visits, your stories (which can be anonymized) would be incredibly valuable to the community.

From the perspective of an educator here in Ankara, the process has hardened significantly. In the archives of my travel history, obtaining a visa was a formality. Recently, I applied for a cultural trip to Italy, and despite my long tenure, the scrutiny was intense. It feels as though the historical context of our relations is ignored by the consulates now. Time tells if this will improve, but for now, it is a struggle.
