Schengen visa processing timelines for South African passport holders in UK

Hey everyone! :globe_showing_europe_africa: I am currently based in London and trying to plan a short trip to the continent next month. I know the theory, but I’m looking for the real current situation regarding processing times for South African passport holders applying from the UK.

Official websites state 15 days, but I have heard conflicting stories about delays at VFS and TLS recently. Does anyone have recent experience with how long it actually took to get your passport back after submission? I really want to ensure I don’t book flights only to have my passport stuck in limbo.

Local is lekker, but this bureaucracy is making me nervous! Any insights on which embassy is moving fastest (France vs Spain vs Italy) would be amazing. Thanks! :sparkles:

Has anyone from London used the ‘Prime Time’ or ‘Premium’ service for the French application specifically for this purpose?

Hey!
From what people are currently sharing, most South African passport holders applying from the UK are receiving their passports back in around 2–3 weeks after biometrics, even though the official timeline states 15 days. Some cases can extend to 3–4 weeks, especially during busier periods.

France, Spain, and Italy all follow similar official timelines, but availability of appointment slots and processing experiences can vary depending on volume and the specific consulate.

Best advice is to allow at least 3–4 weeks buffer before your travel date and avoid booking non-refundable flights too early

I believe it is important to share my recent timeline to provide historical context.
