Parents’ Schengen Visa Refused due to Atlys Document and Insurance Errors

Hi everyone, I recently applied for a Schengen visa for my parents to visit me, acting as their sponsor. I decided to use the Atlys app to streamline the process, but my parents just received refusal letters stating that the “justification for the purpose and conditions of the intended stay was not provided.”

Despite my bank account having sufficient funds, it seems Atlys failed to upload the specific sponsorship cover letter I drafted. Additionally, I paid for their “Hood” insurance add-on, but I never received a policy number or acknowledgement, and I suspect it wasn’t included in the application file either. Now I’m stuck with auto-replies from their chat support and no clear way to fix this. Has anyone successfully appealed a refusal caused by a service provider’s negligence, or should I just cut my losses and reapply directly?

Realizing this is not about a lack of funds but a failure of presentation, it is crucial to clarify the Consulate’s stance.

Has anyone from the Mumbai hub used Atlys for a ‘sponsored’ category specifically? I’m looking for a logic check here.

Greetings all. I recently navigated a similar procedural grievance.

Regarding the technical failure of the ‘Hood’ insurance issuance:

Realizing this is a tactical error rather than a material one, you must think ahead.

Has anyone else faced specific issues with the ‘Hood’ insurance for photo trips?

I was informed that the preservation of the family tie—the sponsorship—is the cornerstone of the application.

To address the recovery process and get back to game day status:

That’s really frustrating — especially when the issue seems to be on the service provider’s side.

In most cases, it’s faster and more effective to reapply properly than to appeal, especially if the refusal was due to missing documents (like sponsorship letter or insurance).

Appeals can take months and usually only work if the consulate made a mistake — not if documents were incomplete in the file they received. If the sponsorship letter and valid insurance weren’t included, the consulate technically assessed based on what they had.

What I’d do:

  • Reapply directly (without Atlys).

  • Include a very clear sponsorship letter.

  • Attach proper Schengen-compliant insurance with policy number + coverage details.

  • Add proof of relationship and stronger explanation of visit purpose.

You can still push Atlys for a refund if you believe they failed to upload required documents — but for the visa itself, reapplying cleanly is usually the quicker path.
