Hi everyone, I have finally managed to secure a slot for my B1/B2 visa interview at the Mumbai Consulate for next month. I am applying primarily to attend a tech conference and visit a few potential clients.
I have been reading a lot of forums, and the rejection rates seem intimidating lately. I have my invitation letter and financial documents ready, but I am nervous about the actual conversation. Could anyone share the most common questions being asked recently for Indian applicants? I want to make sure my answers are concise and do not trigger any red flags regarding potential immigration intent.
Any tips on how to frame the “ties to home country” answer would be a level up.
Recent B1/B2 interviews are usually very straightforward. Most common questions are:
Why are you going to the US?
How long will you stay?
What do you do for work?
Who is paying?
Have you travelled abroad before?
“Ties to home country” = just explain your job/business, ongoing projects, and why you must return (work, family, commitments).
Best tip: keep answers short, honest, and consistent with your DS-160. Don’t over-explain or volunteer extra info. Interviews are often under 2–3 minutes.
