Formal channels to report aggressive upselling and procedural irregularities at Japan visa centers?

Compile error in the real world, folks. I just got back from the visa application center in Mumbai to submit my documents for a Japan tourist visa, and the logic check failed hard.

The staff insisted my photos were “too old” (they were taken yesterday and met all specs) and practically forced me to use their on-site photo booth at a markup. Then, they pushed the “Premium Lounge” service aggressively, claiming the standard queue system was “experiencing delays” and I might miss my slot.

It feels like a scam designed to extract fees rather than a protocol. Is there a way to complain to the Embassy directly about these specific practices? I want to debug this process for others and make sure this doesn’t keep happening. I’m okay with strict rules, but this felt like optimization for profit, not security.

Realizing this is likely not about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs itself but rather the outsourced service provider…

Has anyone from Jakarta or similar high-volume centers actually used the basic/standard service recently without being harassed?
