Can Indonesians apply for a Japan visa from Singapore?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning a trip to Japan later this year and I’m a bit confused about the visa situation. I’m Indonesian but currently working in Singapore. I’ve been searching online, but I’m finding conflicting information about whether I can apply for a Japan visa in Singapore as an Indonesian citizen. Some websites say you have to apply from your country of citizenship, while others suggest it’s possible if you have a valid Singapore work permit. I’m a bit stressed because I don’t want to book my flights and accommodation only to find out I can’t apply for the visa here.

Has anyone experienced this, or does anyone know if it’s possible for Indonesians with a Singapore work permit (I have an Employment Pass) to apply for a Japan visa in Singapore? Not sure if this will be an issue, and I would really appreciate any advice!

Yes, it is possible. I’ve known Indonesian friends who have applied for and received their Japan visas in Singapore while working here. Ensure you have all the required documents, including your EP, proof of residence, and sufficient funds.

I’ve checked the requirements on the Japan embassy website in Singapore, and it states that you can apply if you’re a legal resident here. Just wanted to confirm that your EP is valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned stay in Japan. They usually ask for that. Also, make sure your Singapore re-entry permit is valid too, just in case!

Hey! I’ve been there too, as an Indo in SG! Yep, you can apply in SG. Just make sure your documents are legit and up-to-date. Pro-tip: Book a VFS appointment like, NOW. Slots get snatched up super fast! Goodluck yaa!

Yes — as an Indonesian with a valid Singapore Employment Pass, you can apply for a Japan visa in Singapore because Japan allows applications from legal residents (not just citizens), as long as you can show your work pass and residence in Singapore.
